First Monarch to ...

... emerge for the year.

When this beautiful monarch butterfly emerged today I thought it was a little late in the season.  But I've read through my notes from the past two years and she's actually right on schedule.  This is the monarch that we rescued from our walk back on July 18th.  Isn't she lovely.

We released her a couple of hours after she had emerged so as to let her wings dry enough for her to take flight safely.   And she was released in the memory of the lovely Soleil.  ♥♥♥

We now have a lot of monarch caterpillars happily munching away on the milkweed but this is our first for the season ... making her very special.  It's our tradition (learned from Debbi!) to release the butterflies in memory of a loved one. If you have a loved one that you would like remembered this way please let me know.
