Historic Maryborough

Maryborough was a major inland port back in the day. Many ships travelled up the Mary River from the coast, bringing in immigrants and taking out agricultural products like cotton.

There are plenty of old building in town, many beautifully restored. This one appears to be in near original condition. The way the top verandahs lean out seems to be a local colonial architectural feature. We saw it on a few buildings in town. Presumably it’s to give more shade.
