Dove or pigeon

Out today and noticed some unusually coloured birds on wires across a field. Here is a black and white one but there were striped ones, speckled like starling ones, ordinary grey ones, collared ones - a strange mix I thought. Perhaps they were the contents of someones loft out for a fly around.
