Day 2 Level 4 Lockdown
Although the lockdown is intended to be swift, hard and short, I can’t see us getting out of it before the end of August. The number of cases had risen to 21 today but this evening it was confirmed that a student at each of two Auckland colleges had tested positive for the virus. At least, following genomic sequencing, the Government is reasonably certain that the source of the outbreak has been identified as a New Zealander returning from Sydney on a Red Zone flight after the travel bubble with Australia was stopped. Unfortunately, people in NZ have been complacent and haven’t been using the Covid Tracer App, which makes the job of the contact tracers very difficult. More will be revealed tomorrow.
We had a productive morning in the kitchen today. Hubby baked fresh sourdough bread and rolls, we roasted beetroot and cauliflower, and I made some crackers and also beetroot soup for lunch. Cleaning up the chaos after all that activity was quite a mission!
The blip shows two lovely blossom trees from our walk this afternoon, and the two bowls of beetroot soup and one of the freshly-baked rolls. It’s meant to be a baguette but is a work in progress, as it’s not crisping up enough on the outside. Hubby is determined to keep trying until he gets it right.
