Mechanic's Reward

Onward! Well, that was the plan. I’d dribbled fuel out the filter/separator the previous day and eyeballed it and given the engine a good run and all seemed fine. Not so. Just after starting, and putting the engine to idling, it stalled. I restarted and we sat revving it for some time. All seemed well, but my confidence levels had slumped. DrD had the idea of putting it under load (those pontoons in Tobermory look quite solid) - true enough, it ran OK until you opened it full and the revs died. Hmmm… fuel starvation? With DrD’s assistance (i.e. he did all the work) we replaced the primary filter. Beezer. Of course, the underlying issue (dirty fuel?) is kicked down the road but it “looked” ok in the separator.
Anyway, we decided to tarry another day in Tobermory especially as P&M were arriving from Arisaig and we’d got supplies in from the new micro-brewery. An FCYC meet up - and later we partied at the Indian restaurant and swapped mechanical breakdown stories. P&M have had four! One more than me then.
