Cut the long grass

Tipped off by the RHS mag and after extensive online research I have cut the wild areas in mid August as instructed.  Or rather had a guy do it. I asked him to scythe them as I read it was the best way to preserve the seeds but although he brought a scythe he wasn’t that keen on doing a Poldark and so produced a single blade strimmer which he said was as good.  He said to leave the long grass down for a week or so and then to rake it up, this lets the dry seeds fall out.  Apparently.

He flushed out two quite happy looking toads who lumbered off.

I think I now don’t cut it again until late winter before spring growth resumes but I am happy to be corrected!  Will research some more.
