Rainbow of Hope
These crocheted rainbows are on the railings at the back of Barclay Viewforth Church at Bruntsfield Links. The rainbow symbol of hope has been very prominent during the last 18 months of the Covid pandemic. But I more strongly associate "hope" with Barack Obama's 2008 campaign to become President. The iconic "hope" poster was designed by Shepard Fairey, and he went on to use "change" too. There has been so many imitations and parodies of the poster. Sarah Palin, who was the Republican Vice Presidential candidate in 2008, gave a speech to the National Tea Party Convention in 2010 where she said (to the folks at home), "How's that hopey-changey stuff working out for ya?" . And just in case you're wondering, Obama's campaign slogan for 2012 was "forward".
