Footman And Mint

I was pleased with myself that, when I spotted this moth that I have never seen before amongst the ragwort flowers, I guessed that it was a footman. I think it might be a dingy footman as it answers the description of looking like a melon seed. These moths get their name from a supposed similarity to a footman in his uniform. Can't say that I can see it myself. I suppose, at a stretch, it is reminiscent of those curved-fronted cut-away coats and the way that footmen stand to attention. The larvae of this moth live on lichen. These moths are from the same family as tiger moths which I have been spotting lately.

I posted a mint moth fairly recently which I took under glass on a cultivated mint. This one is on a wild mint, either a field or water mint. What elegant tiny insects these are with their tapestry-like wings.
