Mudd Hall @ USC
The School of Philosophy boasts what are arguably the best facilities of any philosophy program in the US. It is housed in the Mudd Hall of Philosophy, a building in the Tuscan style featured in Los Angeles travel guides and numerous movies and television programs.
The Mudd Hall of Philosophy was built by R. Westcott and dedicated on June 5, 1930. The famous clock tower stands 146 feet above the junction of the North and West wings, equipped with chimes manufactured by Deagan. Ornate sculptures, reliefs, and mosaics adorn the building. The Argonaut's Hall, in which many philosophy seminars and lectures take place, is also ornately decorated and depicts Jason's search for the golden fleece.
Above the fireplace is the inscription:
The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks:
The long day wanes: the slow moon climbs: the deep
Moans around with many voices. Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
- Tennyson
