Forging Hammer

This Forging Hammer stands at the side of the Forth and Clyde Canal in Kirkintilloch.  It was built around the beginning of the 20th century and was used in the Star Foundry  from the 1930s until 1981.  The Star Foundry opened in 1867 beside the canal, was the second foundry to be established in Kirkintilloch.  It was best known for the manufacture of commodities such as "Rainwater Goods" ie drains, gutters, pipes and pipe fittings essential in our rather damp climate.  The extra is a close - up of the commemorative plate on the  Forging Hammer.
