Barn owl

For the last nine days in a row I've been lucky enough to watch a barn owl hunting across the common in the late afternoon. A couple of days ago it flew past so close I felt the breeze from its wings. Today was even better because a second barn owl appeared and they seem to be a pair.

I've never really bothered trying to photograph birds - I don't have the lenses or the patience (I've always got at least one eye on the spaniel especially at this time of year when he's off rabbiting. I couldn't get the two birds in the same frame but thought I'd at least fire off one shot in case I don't see them again.
