Look who we met on our walk!
Eight of us met at Simonburn for today's extra walk. We were: Christine and Henry Swaddle, Gwen and Chris Marples, Jean and Brian Walters, John Shaw and me.
I had plotted a route with a shorter version in case the heavy rain came. There was no rain all day. It was hot and humid until we had done most of the ascent up to Goatstones and Great Longborough farms. Both are empty with no current tenants and it was strange to see the fields devoid of sheep and cows.
Then back across open access land to Greenhaugh (the house not the village), Teckets and down the road to Simonburn and the tearoom.
Part way through we saw a figure beside a tree in the distance. As we approached he came towards us with his pushbike (he was definitely pushing it). S was delightful. He had camped out under the tree last night and had been soaked through. He is cycling from the south coast to the Isle of Skye, but going across country.
Well I never. We rarely see walkers on this route and we have NEVER seen a cyclist before.
