The Lost Doll Of Lower Upnor
Today we took a micro trip out to back to Upnor. It's a quiet waterside hamlet on the western bank of the River Medway which looks across to the town of Chatham and the city of Rochester. It actually consists of two separate villages - Upper Upnor and Lower Upnor.
As we still had the food shop to do we decided to limit ourselves to a walk along the shoreline at Lower Upnor. We walked along the towpath past the local yacht club, where people were enjoying late breakfasts on a second floor balcony, with fabulous views of the anchored boats bobbing in the water and beyond to St.Mary's Island, and continued along the narrow path past several boatyards and a family out fishing.
The weather was rather cloudy but as we walked further we still noticed large shrubs of buddleja were covered in Red Admiral butterflies. It was a sight that stopped us in our tracks!
We carried on with our stroll until we came to the shingle and sandy 'beach' where the river bank is slowly being eroded by the tides. Being an area with a fairly large tidal range it does mean quite a few items get washed up along the shoreline and this is where I spotted today's image. This poor little doll was propped up against the river bank looking forlornly out across the water. It really did have a sense of such melancholy to it.
On a somewhat happier note I had a lovely visit from my mate Matt B. I haven't seen him in person for over a year due to the pandemic. We had a great time catching up about old times, work (he still works for the same company that I was made redundant from), how life is treating us and family and friends. Just such a great bloke.
The extra is a picture of the "Jockmobile". He has an all singing and dancing Focus but he still likes to take out his late dad's (his nickname was Jock) old Mondeo for a spin occasionally. It's 27 years old but has less than 50,000 miles on the clock. Long live the Jockmobile!
