Folk Songs and Fairy Tales
A late night tonight because of a trip out to listen to a bit of folk - and on a school night too! I really enjoyed it. The Emily Portman Trio - a violinist, a harpist and a really talented song writer (although she should still have been beaten by Karine Polwart at the Folk Awards!) After a long and hectic day, they completely held my attention and it was lovely to just sit and be carried along with all the stories.
My favourite verse from a song that was introduced as being a lullaby 'for anyone who feels world weary':
"When you're weary, lay down your head
The world can wait for a while.
There's some things better left unsaid,
So now take off your smile,
it's wearing thin." (Emily Portman)
An apt sentiment for not quite the end of the week ...
