Sam's Triathlon
With registration at 6.15 and the start from 7.30, it was an early alarm that got us up. From Gateshead to the front at Sunderland took about 1/2 an hour. Sam had trained in pools for the swimming, but never in the sea, (in fact, after the event, he confessed to me that today was the first time he'd ever swam in the sea)!
They were starting the Triathlon in groups of 6, so it wasn't a melee entering the sea. 750m in pretty heavy conditions, with the tide going out, making the last 250m really hard work. That was followed by a 20Km bike ride over 4 laps of a street circuit. The final leg was a 5Km run.
Sam did astonishingly well - and not just for a first triathlon, with a 24:40 swim, a 47:02 cycle and a 23:15 run (beating his PB for a 5Km run) plus the transitions, gave a total time of 1:37:30.5, really impressive.
I took over 600 photos in that time, including over 100 of Sam.
Had to turn these three above into a Tryptiche.
