Monday
Went over to Brandon Country Park for a walk in the forest this morning. It's one of our regular walking places, with areas of beech as well as the commercial conifers - & there's a cleared, fenced off area which Norfolk Wildlife Trust is managing as open Breckland heathland - heather, grasses, lichens, with the occasional small birch or pine tree dotted around. It's heather time & the weather forecast said it would be sunny, but unfortunately the Met Office forgot to tell the dense clouds that they were supposed to dissipate. The heathland looks best when the dried grasses shimmer amidst the heather, but that didn't happen in the greyness this morning. A good walk, pity about the photos. The best was probably this one which concentrated on a small patch of detail around an old, weathered, piece of one of the original trees.
