Findhorn River at Logie Steadings

What a wonderful day with the Forres family in and around this lovely little town near Findhorn Bay and the Moray Firth. In glorious weather too.

In the morning we walked around the Sandquar Loch and Cluny Woods and up to Nelson’s Tower. We had the great good fortune to watch a red squirrel in the trees, acrobatically leaping from branch to branch gathering nuts.

There were many spectacular fungi - a selection of which are included as an extra, with the names (in no particular order) list below:

Fistulinaceae - beefsteak, Boletus edulis -cep, Inocybaceae, Stropharia rugosoannulata - wine cap, Fomitopsidaceae - bracket polyphores, Sparassidaceae, Suillaceae and Russulaceae

Nelson’s Tower was indeed built in memory of Nelson’s victories. From the tower are spectacular views north over the Firth to Caithness with the mountain Morven very prominent.

For lunch we drove to Logie Steading just south of Forres for lunch. It proved to be a lovely place. Great cafe, lots of small shops in the Estate’s renovated “Model Farm” buildings. Good as this was, the best of all was the walks along the Findhorn River. Truly inspirational with great views of this most beautiful of rivers.

Speaking to Chris later this evening. It’s his 37th birthday today. A day off work and Landon is having a day off from daycare. They went to Disney in Los Angeles yesterday and had a good time by all accounts.
