Beyond Expectations

I had an urge for some sea with plenty of moody clouds, and wind to whip up the waves giving the opportunity to practise some long exposures. The nearest most likely spot was off the West Sussex coast at Selsey, with the prospect of some bird watching at Pagnam Harbour thrown in.

The reality was a gorgeous warm summer's day, a gentle breeze and blue skies with fuffy white clouds!  It was also clearly the wrong season or tide for birds ... even gulls were noticeable by their absence  :-)

Instead I took a gentle stroll from Church Norton, round the harbour and along the East Beach to Selsey with good views across to bay to Bognor Regis. Apparently this view inspired Eric Coates to compose By the Sleepy Lagoon in 1930, now the signature tune for the BBC's Desert Island Discs.
