Instructor On-Duty
This semester on Wednesdays I report to the campus for just two-70 minute duty sessions in the Writing Center which located in the LRC (Learning Resource Center). It is truly a very busy place and much too noisy.
I used to thoroughly enjoy my time in the Writing Center, but since we've moved to this new location (approximately 1 year ago), it just does not seem to be conducive to studying and learning. It also mostly feels like students are just working at computers.
The head of our department recently told me that because the classes I teach are "hybrid" (half online and half in the face-to-face classroom) that I can put my labs in cyberspace and no longer need to do duty time in the Writing Center. I'm not quite sure how that works, so it is something I want to research to learn exactly what that means.
Our campus is a growing place and I continue to be amazed at the increase in student population in the past several years. There used to "lull" moments during the day when it seemed as though all students had exited the campus. That never happens anymore.
Good night from Southern California.
