Falcon Square, Inverness
The Square is named for John Falconer who established the Falcon Foundry near the railway station in 1858. One of the foundry buildings is behind the (New) Mercat Cross, it was relocated here in the 1990s. The 37 ft high sandstone pillar was designed by Gerald Laing and unveiled in 2003. It is topped by a bronze unicorn and around it are swooping falcons.
