Winter Mix

"Winter Mix" is a favorite expression of our TV weatherman.

It is ironic that I shot this with an iphone 5, coming out of the gym this morning, because the building is an old AT&T switching station. The device in my hand has more data capacity than every piece of equiptment that used to be housed in this massive structure.

Phone calls used to travel as analog signals across copper wire. Every phone call needed its own dedicated copper wire connecting the two phones. The operators sat at a switchboard, literally connecting one piece of copper wire to another so that the call could travel across town or across the country. Long-distance calls were expensive, because you were renting the use of a very long piece of copper wire every time you made a call.

Now we have Skype. But, slush never goes out of style.
