Dr. Mudd's Grave

Dr. Mudd is our county's celebrity. He is known for setting the leg of the man who killed President Lincoln. He was imprisoned at Ft. Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas, off the coast of Key West. He and his wife are buried at the church near our house.
There is speculation about whether Dr. Mudd was a collaborator in the Lincoln assassination. There is also some discussion about whether the good doctor was a Confederate spy. For several years, I was a docent at the Dr. Mudd House and Museum. At the time, Dr. Mudd's youngest granddaughter, Louise Arehart, ran the museum and was a staunch defender of her grandfather's reputation.
