Water

Each year March 22 is designated World Water Day with this year being International Year of Water Cooperation.

We are fortunate here as we have plenty of water and think nothing of being able to run the tap at any time to get our "free" water. We use it for drinking, washing, bathing, leisure and pleasure and have become heavily dependent upon a ready supply. Yet throughout the world almost a billion people have no access to clean water with many more having inadequate sanitation and today about 2000 children will die due to water related illnesses. Disputes and conflicts about water are increasing especially in areas where there is hardly any rain or it is wanted for agriculture, industry or domestic usage. So the focus today is to show a need for the cooperation and coordination in managing the world's resources of fresh water.
