Oysters

I am now back at home, getting excited about another 3 days of work. A further opportunity to contribute to strengthening the reputation of the country’s political and governmental institutions and bring independence a bit closer.

Putting cynicism aside, the rest of my 24 hour vacation on the Costa del Sauchiehall Street was delightful. I had a delicious breakfast in the hotel, served at my table by the superb staff. As well as excellent food and service, I had a pleasant chat with the restaurant manager about the challenges they face in delivering that food and service.

Staffing was her main issue. Leaving aside actual shortages resulting from Brexit, staff find the pandemic procedures difficult and often do not stay long. She seemed to be very pleased to have someone show an interest.

The reception staff were friendly and efficient too, so the place rates very high on my list. After working in hotels quite a bit when I was a student, I do not offer praise lightly.

I had time for a wander around Glasgow city centre to walk off the chunky breakfast inside me. I enjoyed that too. At 9am the streets were quiet and it all felt relaxed. I also had time for a cappuccino and croissant at Fratelli Sarti across the street from the hotel - sitting outside in the sun and relishing the experience.

My train back to the park and ride was as easy and pleasant as the inbound trip yesterday. My car was still there too - not something to take for granted in that part of the world.

The Blip is Argyll Arcade. Extras are La Pasionaria, and a sad sight. I have many happy memories of Rogano. The Last Wife had cravings for oysters when she was pregnant with Junior, so we were regulars for a while.
