Today has been our longest day for driving but as usual, we’ve packed in as much as possible.

I’m not sure how my consultant will react when he sees the state of my boot; I’ve been ‘off roading’ today.

We walked the loop of the Corrieshalloch Gorge (though the suspension bridge was closed due to safety concerns) and also down to and round the Smoo Caves. I had comments at both places about how I’d put able bodied people to shame!

We also had a stop at Kylescu bridge, for the ‘best hot chocolate’ at Cocoa Mountain in Durness and Mr A got some spectacular drone shots over Sango sands beach.

The only disappointment was Ullapool. I’d planned a stop there for breakfast but we struggled to find anywhere to eat! The cafes and tea rooms that were advertised were either closed or takeaway only, which is what we had to get in the end.

Tonight we are staying just outside of Thurso and will start making our way back down the East coast of Scotland towards home.

During our travels today we discussed how this could be some people’s idea of hell, but we love being on the road! With the weather being so lovely (massive bonus), it feels more like a holiday.

When we’ve been driving in South Africa, we’ve often remarked how it could be Scotland. This trip has been the same; we could be 1000’s of miles away on another continent, the scenery is just as stunning here. Scotland truly is ‘Bonny’ :-)
