Woodlouse.

I was moving some of the surplus blocks left over from when we made the base for the summerhouse.  I was greeted by the sight of this little woodlouse and half its cast exoskeleton.

I can only remember having seen this twice in my life and both have been in the last 12 to 18 months.  The cast exoskeleton stands out so well that I can't believe I have seen it and forgotten.  If you look carefully you can see the difference between the backend of the exoskeleton and the part which has just been exposed.

Woodlice are long term residents of this planet of ours.  Originally they were living in the sea and colonised the land mainly during the Carboniferous period (360 - 300 million years ago).
