Dereliction repurposed
The nearby suburb of St Peters was once inhabited by the gentry, in their mansions. By 1910 a number of stately homes had been demolished to make way for industrial sites. Because St Peters is on a large clay deposit, the main industry was brick making, and associated ceramics. Later in the 20th century, woollen mills were prominent and many other industries were established, but they are long gone.
The photo is one of several buildings in a St Peters former industrial site. These days the buildings house a range of enterprises and over the years I've bought wholesale tiles, soft furnishings and designer plant pots for the Resident Gardener from here. I'm so glad it's still in use and hasn't been given over to residential. It's such an important reminder of the heritage of our local area.
Thanks for all those warm responses to my nasturtiums for flower Friday. I was touched by each and every one of them.
Thanks for continuing to host derelict, Marlieske. Stay well all.
