Wild Wednesday ...

... Killdeer.

Such a shame these lovely birds have such an ugly name! But the Killdeer got their name from the shrill, wailing kill-deer call they give so often.


I don't often see these birds around so when I saw this one as we were pumping gas at Costco I simply had to get a picture.  I approached rather slowly as I know that they are flighty when it comes to people.  I wasn't able to get real close so this is cropped somewhat.  And I had to photograph this one from behind!
