Free Falling

Though, obviously, they had opened their parachutes by the time I took the photo! Still, it was quite an impressive - and slightly worrying - sight watching little black specks falling from a plane at a rapid rate of knots before a flash of colour heralded the deployment of the ‘chute. At which point, it all seemed to go into slow motion as they seemed to hang in the air for ages before coming in to land. The landings were equally impressive - I think I had a heavier landing jumping down from the two foot high grass bank I was standing on to take the photo!
If things had gone to plan this morning, I would never have seen any if this. We headed off at a ridiculously early hour to the usual car boot site but, in spite of getting there only 5 minutes after the gates “officially” opened, found it absolutely rammed with no spaces left. A friend who was there, reckoned they’d been arriving since 5am! Not wishing just to go home, I headed for an alternative site that used to be quite good when we frequented it a few years back. As you might have guessed, it is based on the edge of an airfield, which does at least mean dry, level hardstanding instead of wet grass in a hilly field.
Definitely not as busy as it used to be - and nowhere near as busy as the other site - but we did some good business early on with the dealers who always frequent these events first thing. At the end of the day, the cash total was satisfactory - the physical reduction in stock somewhat less so as it was mainly the small stuff that sold.
Still, the discovery of small cracks in a vase and some table lamps meant space could be created by dint of declaring these items unsaleable and leaving them in a bin, rather than packing them away again!
