Star of India

The significant event of the day was that I finished Barack Obama's first volume of his presidency.  At over 700 pages it was more than a little daunting.  But it was very well written and gave some fascinating insights into the issues he faced, the campaign promises he couldn't keep and a changing political context in which truth was a bystander.  Interesting sections on Afganistan where, driven by advice from the military, he increased troop numbers and on Libya and his limited intervention there.  He comes across as a man of principle trying to his best under impossible circumstances.  Thoroughly enjoyable.
