Ptarmigan

Did three hills north of Loch Cluanie today: Carn Ghluasaid, Sgurr nan Conbhairean and Sail Chaorainn. Overcast with cloud just touching the tops of the hills so the lighting wasn't good for photos, but saw this flock of a dozen ptarmigan in summer plumage at the top of Sgurr nan Conbhairean. The extra is a shot of them on the ground before they took flight, they are very well camouflaged against the rocks.
