Ice cream queue

People line up around the block to get a scoop of ice cream featuring bacon and maple syrup, or mushrooms and hazelnuts, or coffee laced with bourbon whiskey lathered around chunks of gooey brownie. I passed it by, as I was walking off three days of Zoom.

I took an online course Friday, Saturday and Sunday on Love and Death (which is pretty much all I’ve been talking about in my blips for the past month). The presenters are two Buddhist teachers of great heart—Frank Ostaseski (whose work I have quoted a few times), and Roshi Joan Halifax. She published a short article here a year ago, about equanimity, or balance. The Japanese call it “Grandmother’s Heart,” which she describes as “a heart made fierce and brave by adversity” with no interest in worldly power or rank. Robaishin.
