Sea Wall

I seem to remember that when I first visited Parkgate, the marsh that laps the sea wall was mainly grass. Today the grass is liberally sprinkled with wildflowers and I think of biology lessons at school, where we learned about how sand dunes are colonised first by grass then by more diverse species.
We usually chat about Lord Nelson sailing in to meet his mistress, although that seems to be a myth. The sandstone wall along the parade is a reminder that this was once a thriving port and that change is a part of the story of rivers, The excellent coffee, queues for great ice cream and the popularity of local  fish and chips are not myths.
