Funfair at the Carnival
Shepshed Lions have been organising the Shepshed Carnival on August Bank Holiday Monday for years now. They did a really good job this year. Glenmore Park was packed. Two showrings, entertainers, two tea tents and a host of fast food outlets.
When we arrived, the kiddies' funfair was in full swing although as you can tell from the photo, someone wasn't very happy.
One showman had brought a selection of birds of prey including four kestrels, a hooded vulture and a Chilean Blue Eagle. The were kept distant from the crowd except when performing, because, as the handler explained, Bird Flu is rife at the moment and if the birds caught it, they would all have to be put down.
Our neighbours were collecting entrance fees at the entrance to the park off Glenmore Avenue. Good to see them entering into the community spirit. They were wearing t-shirt type tops emblazoned with the logo, Friends of Shepshed Lions.
I suppose a lot of people don't want to join the Lions directly but are happy to help out at events like this.
