Can You See Me Now?
Our chipmunks here at the cottage are pretty brazen. We have created monsters by feeding them peanuts over the decades and now they feel free to come begging, to climb up into our lap, up our arms or even around our neck. We are used to that...but our visitors are not. I can understand that...it is a bit disconcerting to be sipping a drink on the deck chatting away with your host and have a rodent suddenly appear out of nowhere and climb up into your lap! The little devils also climb up the porch screens where you are sitting, hover at the door when you open it and peer at you through the windows - anything to get your attention.
Today was a lovely fall day - pleasant and sunny with a good stiff breeze - a perfect day for sitting out on the deck relaxing, watching the boats and construction barges going by, working on a laptop or reading a good book. I chose to read. And in this blip, you can see what made that a challenge! Fed up with being ignored, this gutsy little fellow gave new meaning to "brazen"! And of course, wanting him to stop and go away, I rewarded his brazen behaviour with peanuts? Good thinking... a self-defeating strategy! I should know better.....
