A Cheery Jigsaw

A day of a lot of admin, a bit of gardening and a haircut. Horribly weather again and I might have to put the heating on this evening, so I thought a cheery jigsaw would be in order. I rang the surgery to book my flu jab this morning and unsurprisingly they’ve put back their booking for a week, presumably as the Covid booster jab process has yet to to be announced.

Day 534 / Day 45 of Step 4 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
The JCVI has just recommended a third jab be given to half a million people with severely compromised immune systems. This is separate to the booster programme and is because in these people, two jabs are insufficient. Adults should get either Moderna or Pfizer, with 12-17 year olds getting Pfizer. New infections in Scotland are 80% higher than last week and five times higher than four weeks ago. As a result vaccine passports proposals are being put to parliament for indoor events with more 500 unseated people and outdoor events with more than 4,000 unseated people, plus any event with over 10,000 attendees. England is to proceed with vaccine passports in nightclubs from the end of Sept. France has started giving booster jabs to those over 65 and those with underlying health conditions. People are eligible if six months have passed since they were fully vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna, or 4 weeks after J&J. The World's largest study on long Covid in children says than 1 in 7 still have symptoms nearly 4 months after infection, albeit few were so badly affected that they were unable to go to school. 3,000 long Covid sufferers are being sought for a study looking into whether there are genetic factors driving the reaction to the virus. The WHO has named a new variant of interest as Mu, which was first identified in Columbia. They have also urged that children over the age of 12 are vaccinated.
