Macaneta

A relaxing day with Lundula at Macaneta beach, around 45 minutes from Maputo. There was a cool wind which blew sand everywhere but the sun was nice and nestling in the dunes was pleasant.

Two dogs from one of the beach resorts latched on, and it was embarrassing when they approached each Mozambican aggressively, as people can be petrified of dogs here. We had to act as their de facto disciplinarians.

Before leaving Lundula wanted to get some pictures in the dunes wearing an outfit he’d picked up in Maputo’s ‘calamidades’ (second hand clothes markets). It was amusing seeing him arrive on the sand with a Sex on the Beach cocktail, which the bar staff had given him for free. They mistook him for a celebrity when he said he was planning to shoot a few photos, when what he’s actually doing is raising awareness of reusing clothes economically, with an environmental message to people who currently go to overpriced boutiques for very similar stuff.

I’ve been doing some meditation each evening with the very good Headspace app, which is making me feel more grounded than around a week ago. I’ll take the small progress. Coupled with this is a less processed diet than when I was in the UK, which is boding well for more energy and less sluggishness.
