Erecting the marquee
Did I mention I think that flexibility is the most important attribute for a party planner?
The first lorry with the marquee flooring on board very nearly got stuck in between our stone gateposts. The lorry turned in and reversing in would have been better. I rushed out and helped the driver to get through, then told the second van to reverse. Phew!
I provided restorative tea immediately.
Then we hit the next snag - the 9 x 9 metre marquee did not fit on the lawn as planned. It would fit if I allowed them to put it on top of the rose bed. NO! After a lot of measuring and negotiation, a solution was found which satisfied all parties. All I had to do was to set to and dig up a large section of primulas. They are in the wheelbarrow and should transplant successfully.
As you can see a jigsaw was being constructed and put together.
By early afternoon, a marquee was in place. It's not big enough so they will return on Friday with a pagoda to add on. The food will go in there and I think it's a good solution.
Annette was here and blasting through the house when she had a call to pick up baby Owen from Nursery. He would not feed and was screaming. She planned to return tomorrow. In the event, Owen was fine and Daddy was called home from his work. Annette returned to us.
With Catherine's help, we carried all the champagne flutes into the house. They have all been washed and are standing to attention on the island in the kitchen. All I have to do now is to take them downstairs and then out onto the table they will occupy for the party. No bother!
We managed to watch both Only Connect and Uni Challenge tonight. It was a good time to unwind after a fairly stressful day.
Four sleeps to go.
