race number 1590
Time Travelling
I was in the attic last month trying to find some documents and I came across a box with my running vests, race records, certificates and medals... etc and a pair of running spikes (I did a bit of track work).
Back then I was skinny and fast on the short courses and just starting to transition into 10 milers and half marathons.
This is just an excerpt from a scrapbook - a page from the early years when I was running alongside Harriers ...but not yet in a Harrier Club.
I recall the joy of coming in 18th at the 'Sunderland Annual Carnival Fun Run' a 6 mile race that started at the Grange and went up to Red House then down to Southwick Green and back to the Grange. 34mins and 16 seconds was a fast pace for 6 miles and I came in ahead of a lot of Harriers.
The 'Outdoor Club" I was in was mainly fell runners and skiers, but we trashed the Sunderland Harriers to pickup the cup at the 'Red House Fun Run' a 10 miler ...it was supposed to be 'their cup' apparently :o)
The next season I ran a half marathon in 1 hour 27 minutes which was a game changer for me.
Happy Days.
