Gone fishing ….

If it’s a Thursday, there’s always a chance I’ll blip a kingfisher. It’s our first visit to a the Spinnies after a three week break - our stop-off on our visit to G’s mum. We can’t stay long, but once again we’re lucky as this hyperactive little chap - a male this time, judging by the beak - pays us a visit and we actually catch him fishing as he zips along from branch to branch at lightning speed.

Of course, I fail to catch him diving, though I do manage a couple of in-flight shots that I’m quite pleased with - though not enough to put them as my main.  He’s caught a tiny fish or prawn of some sort, and I capture him twisting back and forth presumably to stun his prey. And then he sits there quietly for a second or two, its diminutive translucent tail dangling lifelessly from his beak. Hardly a satisfying meal, but then every little helps ….

So that’s my main; the far-from-perfect action shots are extras, together with another static shot which is probably my favourite of the day.
