In the garden
The RSC have had a generous ( !) donation which have enabled them to build an outdoor space in the garden at Stratford . We saw A Comedy of Errors which was such fun- mixed identities played upon to the nth degree..not a play I knew, but one I enjoyed.
It’s set in Ephesus in Greece, Shakespeare’s shortest play at just under 2 hours, and fulfils the brief of the unity of time, occurring within a 24 hr time frame https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Comedy_of_Errors
This staging sets it in the 80s, cue shoulder pads and zingy colours!
At the beginning of the performance it was announced that 4 of the 13 strong cast were understudies due to various reasons. And one further was roped in that day! To say they did well was an understatement! We couldn’t tell who was an understudy at all ( apart from the girl with the script in her hand , who actually did remarkably well)!!
It was so good to be back watching live theatre and the weather was kind.
