Aechmea Fasciata

The botanical name doesn’t exactly trip off the tongue. The plant belongs to the Bromeliad family. It is commonly called the silver vase or urn plant and is native to Brazil.

The plant has tough arched leaves, blotched silver and sea green that overlap into a rosette forming a watertight ‘vase’ or ‘urn’ which gives the plant its common name.

According to Google they make excellent house plants but I have only seen them growing in the hot houses in the Botanic Gardens and Calderglen Country Park where I photographed this one.
