They Are Biomanipulating The Environment.
After a lovely dog walk this morning and a nice lunch overlooking Maltser Broad, Mr Kit took Dylan back to the cottage whilst the boys and I went on a Norfolk Wildlife Trust boat trip on Ranworth Broad.
Our guide, Maurice, was excellent and so knowledgeable and interesting. We saw lots of interesting birds including herons, great crested grebes and these cormorants and we learned how they are ‘biomanipulating’ the environment to improve water conditions. Mr Kit and Dylan met us afterwards for a tea and cake stop in the village.
Edit: An explanation of the bio manipulation is that they have separated areas of the broad with a boom and a fine net down to the bed and removed most of the fish to let the invertebrates and zooplankton increase in numbers again which will naturally clean up the water, a process that should take approx 5 years.
