La figue du Leith
Went up to the West End in order to visit the Dean Gardens (first time since.....goodness, June 1st!) Lovely, quiet, very green and lush. Then we visited Mellis in Stockbridge in order for D to re-connect with a traditional Dolly pork pie (she won't be at the market tomorrow, 1st Sat is vegan quarter, I hope you're keeping up). Also bought some delicious cheese, natch. Then walked all the way home down the water, having to restrain myself from occasionally leaping over the wall to grab a rogue Himalayan Balsam. Saw the kingfisher flashing past!
A few weeks back, I was wading in The Water downstream of here and actually picked up a fig (unripe but properly formed). It must have come from the Leith fig tree, which has been flourishing for some years in the wall just below Redbraes Weir.
