Life after Burradoo, NSW

Solid clay

The saga of the pipes continues. Being Saturday, there was no work going on today so I could get a close look at what they have been doing. There are several of these deep holes along the grass verge (see extra) and there is tunnel, the diameter of the pipes, running between each hole. I am curious to know how they will push or drag the pipes through the tunnels.

The other aspect of this I found interesting is what this shows clearly is that beneath a thin layer of top soil there is pure clay

Our house is built on a slab. During the drought, when all the clay under the slab dried out, deep cracks started to appear in the brickwork of the exterior walls. We also had a few minor cracks in our interior walls. We sought advice from a structural engineer thinking we might be up for a major expense. His advice was "Hose your house". We did so and, lo and behold, the cracks closed up. It did take a fair bit of water.
