Dunstanburgh Castle
Day 2 of the Merry Widows sojourn in Embleton began with a protracted breakfast and much chatter. With grey skies no one thought to go abroad before breakfast although there were some of us up and dressed almost as the cock crowed, but unusually I wasn’t one of them. I had drawn the straw for the bedroom that just fitted the bed but the latter was so comfortable and the downie so luxurious that I couldn’t find any excuse to get and go.
Having seen off breakfast and cleaned out the fire and laid it for tonight, my chores were done and after the others had stacked the dish washer and revived the central heating it was off for a walk to Embleton village and a coffee at Dunstanburgh Hotel.
There was a walk back through the golf course avoiding any stray golf balls and some down time before a walk along the beach as the ebbing tide made frilly advances on our shoes.
It’s my turn to make the meal tonight and after 2 glasses of wine, it’s anyone’s guess what the result will be. My other two companions are ensconced on the patio with the nibbles and the wine bottle. Hopefully they will be full of largesse when sampling the food- fish pie if you must know.
We have figured out how to view our DVDs on the television so it’s a night in front of the log fire with a DVD of their choice. I am easy to please.
