A hirundine moment

Our first visit to Holly on the Hill in 3 weeks. And J’s first walks with fresh air in 3 weeks too.

In the morning we visited Foulshaw Moss, and walked along the board walk. The heather was still in flower, lizards were still basking on the edges.

In the afternoon we did a circuit around Gait Barrows. The sun came out, which was unexpected. My highlight of the day was the meadow featured in the blip image. A large mixed flock of swallows, house martins and sand martins skimming over the meadow feasting on flying insects. Quite mesmerising. And a sign that the migrants are either on the return south, or preparing themselves for the long journey.
