Charlie Chaplin lived here
Walking back to Waterloo after close of play at the Oval yesterday, I walked past 287 Kennington Road. This was one of the numerous places in Kennington that Charlie lived in as a child. Kennington has become "gentrified" in recent years but it wasn't like that in Charlie's youth. This would have been a multioccupancy house and the area was a poor neighbourhood. Entertainment was to be found in the pubs and music halls which captivated Charlie and gave expression to his own talents which were to catapult him to international stardom.
