PAINTED TURTLE

It was beautiful weather-wise yesterday so we took a drive to the Horicon Marsh, about an hour away from The Glen, to see if any of the skeins of Canada geese we've seen flying have begun to stage for the flight south. The Marsh is the largest cattail marsh in the U.S. at some 33,000 acres (13,355 hectares) and is a major draw for migrating geese and swans heading south for the winter. They spend a month or so fattening up before completing their migration. They can lose approximately 18% of their body mass on their migration flight so it's essential to replace calories along the way.

Not much goose activity so far but some ducks and some turtles were around and served as good subjects for a Blip on Mono Monday. Tomorrow I will Blip the color version....just for comparison. I would have uploaded an Extra...but I'm out of Extras for the year.
