Heat
A real scorcher today - possibly even hotter here for the next two days. I squeezed in a short morning walk round Dogsthorpe Star Pit, where I found lots of Narrow-leaved Bird's-foot-trefoil and a good scattering of the tiny pink star-like flowers of Lesser Centaury. There was still plenty of dragonfly activity, though mainly Migrant Hawkers (see extra) and Common Darters.
After a lovely lunch in the garden with Chris, I spent some time watching the Ivy blossom in the front garden, and spotted the first Ivy Bees of the season. The sunlight was catching the old spiders webs, revealing a wonderful array of colours - the banding presumably revealing slight structural differences in the spider's silk.
